Symphony No. The symphony is in four movements. The instrumentation for the first performance was: 2 flutes ; 2 oboes ; 2 horns ; bassoon ; strings and keyboard continuo. This is Mozart's first four-movement symphony, in which he introduces the Minuet and Trio for the first time, a feature common in many of his symphonies thereafter. The movements are:. The symphony was included in a concert arranged by Count von Schrattenbach , brother of the Archbishop of Salzburg , given by the Mozart family Leopold Mozart , the year-old Wolfgang Amadeus, and the year-old Maria on 30 December at the Taverna in Brno. A local clergyman recorded: "I attended a musical concert in a house in the city known as the "Taverna", at which a Salzburg boy of eleven years and his sister of fifteen years, accompanied on various instruments by inhabitants of Brno , excited everyone's admiration" . Mozart is perhaps the greatest composer in history. In a creative lifetime spanning only 30 years but featuring more than works, he redefined the symphony, composed some of the greatest operas ever written and lifted chamber music to new heights of artistic achievement. For many music lovers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart achieved a level of musical perfection unmatched by any other composer. Mozart can be serious without ever seeming ponderous; he can laugh with the best of them, although even his most happy creations are often tinged with a strange sense of melancholy. He expresses the most profound emotions with a sleight-of-hand that carries with it the secret of eternal youth. And all this was achieved during a creative lifetime that spanned a mere 30 years. He constantly ranted and raved in his letters to his father about the general state of contemporary music. In order to win applause one must write stuff which is so inane that a fiacre [a type of horse-drawn carriage] could sing it, or so unintelligible that it pleases precisely because no sensible man can understand it. Mozart is always adorable!
These lines by Rainer Maria Rilke apply very well to Mozart's music. It is a music of purity and perfection, as befits this most musical of musicians. No flaw can be found in it. Accentuation in Mozart.
